| Anecdote | Salome must have had a very tragic life. She was married to Hoyt W. McConnell in July of 1905, had two children, William and Mildred, born 1906 and 1908 respectively, showed up in the household of her mother Kate Bender in the 1910 census, she was dead of Nephritis complicated by Tuberculosis at the very young age of 23. Tuberculosis and its complications accounted for the death of her father William T Bender on about a year before Salome died and also for the death of her grandfather, John Bender, in 1856. Her son, William, lived a normal life, eventually dying in California in 1992 while her daughter, Mildred, enlisted in the WACs during WW II and died in Birmingham, AL in 1974.1 | |
