Marriage | 15 September 1846 | He and Dorice Mary ("Dolly") Weigel were married on 15 September 1846 in Clark, Indiana, United StatesBGO. Bender/Weigel Marriage: John Bender, who was born about 1810 in Wuerttemberg, Germany, married Dorice (Dolly) Weigel in Clark County, Indiana on 15 Sept 1846. This is certain because the original certificate, held by John Bender's great great grandson, Jerry Case, is clearly readable. Records in Clark County ledgers, though, have the information mis-transcribed as Jacob Bender and Doris Mieckle which is, apparently, the name of another Bender couple. The Indiana State Library, which is the official repository for early Indian Marriage records, is unable to correct the records as they are obliged to use the information in the county ledgers. The information on the marriage certificate is also verified by Bender family oral traditions.was born in Baden, Germany (likely) or Baden, Austria (less likely). Why John and Dorice were married in Indiana is a mystery. Either or both of them may have had relatives who settled in Indiana following immigration from Germany. |
