This was the highest militia office in the county and Colonel Mapp was responsible directly to the Governor of Virginia for the militia's activities. He served in this capacity until his death and had taken part in at least one court martial of an Eastern Shore citizen who was selling supplies to the British in Chesapeake Bay.11 |
