Alexander McCain (McKean) was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Third Battalion of the Pennsylvania Regiment on 15 May 1758. His company commander was Capt. Archibald McGrew (who was one of the auditor’s of Hugh McCain’s estate). Another Captain and Lieutenant in this same battalion were Thomas Hamilton (commissioned Captain 16 May 1758, son of Hance Hamilton), and Victor King (commissioned Lieutenant 6 May 1758, brother-in-law of Alexander and Hugh McCain). The date of Alexander McCain’s enlistment means that he was a part of General John Forbes’ combined expedition to Fort Duquesne.2
