Anecdote | 1635 | Among the headrights of John Moone in 1635 were Anth. Jordan" and "Rich. Banen" (C. P. 32). These names suggest "Arthur Jordan" and "Richard Baven”, men of these names having settled early in Surry County Virginia. The inference seems to be confirmed by the record that, April 12, 1654, Arthur Jordan married Elizabeth Bevin. They may have been children of the headrights of 1635. If it is true that he was the son of the Arthur of 1635, that Arthur would be the father of the Jordan family following. The James City records were destroyed so we can only surmise.2 |
