Anecdote | During a recent visit to our local LDS church my wife stumbled across a 17-page document on French nobility. It was written in the old French language and with the help of a translator we were able to extract the following information which I felt compelled to share with everyone. In 1658 a young German couple were murdered in France. Their names were Jacques de la Chevallerie (b. 1630 d. 1658) and Susanne de Andigny (b. 1633 d. 1658) They had two sons, Georg Friedrich de la Chevallerie (b. 1654) and Simon de la Chevallerie (b. 1655 Dauphin Province, France d. 1698) Jacques cousin was King Charles II. The king took Simon as his own son and knighted him in 1660 at age 5. He was knighted as Chevalier de Sinard and was to serve as a knight for Sinard, France. I assume there were many other Sinard's already living in Sinard, France by then. In 1679, Chevalier de Sinard married Elizabeth Philiponnea (b. 1663 Sinard, France d. 1736). She became Countess de Sinard. In 1685, Chevalier de Sinard and family left for SW France and then went to Ireland. It was noted that the king allowed him to keep his Coat of Arms and retain his knighthood. Why? Not sure but King Charles II died in 1685. Baptismal records show that Chevalier de Sinard had a son named James Sinard, born in Ireland in 1680. Could it be that Chevalier and/or James went back and forth from France to Ireland? In 1700 James marries Mary Bland (b. 1680 Sinard, France). They had a son Jonathan (John) Sinard (b. 1710 in Ireland d. 26 Mar 1764 in Shrewsbury Township, York Co. PA). Ship passenger lists show that James and Mary came to America, in 1711, when John was a year old. Then in 1740 John married Elinor Johnson (b. 1718 York Co. PA) and we all descended from them. I know this raises a lot of questions and may differ from what some of you have but I thought I would share what we found. Diane Siniard | |
