Served as a sergeant in the Third Regiment of South Carolina Continental Troops under Captain George Liddell during 1779 and was a private after the fall of Charleston, South Carolina (Reference: South Carolina Roster, Pg # 981). Also listed with a John & Samuel Wharton. Stub entries to Indents issued in payment of claims against South Carolina growing out of the Revolution Books U-W N416 issued the 7 July 1785 to Bartlett Whorton, for 12 pounds, 8 shillings and 6 pence for Military Duty per account audited. Interest 7 shillings 4 pence. 1790 South Carolina census shows family as 1 male of 16 and up, 2 males under 16, and 1 female born before 1790.
