Anecdote | | Husband of Mary Freeman Mathews. Son of Byron Henley Mathews sr. and Maude Elizabeth Johnson (buried at Westview). Maude Johnson was the daughter of Nicholas Johnson and Cordelia Brooks (buried at Westview). Judge Mathews was a man of many interests and pursuits. He wrote the historically detailed book about the Military operations around Newnan and Coweta County called "The McCook - Stoneman Raid" which detailed the events and troop movements that preceded the Brown's Mill Battle (near Newnan, Coweta, GA.) and Nash Farm Battle (Lovejoy, Clayton County, GA.).
