Anecdote18 March 1881As written in the March 18, 1981 Statesville Landmark Newspaper: One hundred years ago: Landmark, March 18, 1881 "About two miles below the road bridge across the Catawba in Shiloh township, Mr Andrew Traffenstate has stretched a wire rope across the river, and launched his spendid new ferry boat, thereby establishing another ferry for the accommodation of the public. And by the way, Mr McCamie Lewis is building a new boat at this ferry, at which the bill, on the Iredell side, ought to be taken down a button or two".
