"The Gospel Messenger", Volume 19, No. 3 - March 1897: Henderson Allen. Henderson Allen died in Newnan, Ga., January 11, 1897, at the advanced age of 82. He had long been a citizen of Alabama, having lived for many years within a few miles of Opelika. He and Sister Allen, his wife (who has been dead for nearly four years), raised a large family of sons and daughters, and at his death his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were quite numerous. His earthly remains were brought from Newnan, Ga., to Opelika, Ala., and today (January 13th) he was decently buried in the cemetery at Mt. Olive. By request we conducted the burial services, speaking a little from a few verses in 14th chapter of John. – W.M.Mitchell. |
