AnecdoteLou Poole Comments

NATHANIEL GREEN McCAIN. Green probably accompanied his brother, Guy, above, to Indiana, and is also "lost" in the notorious 1840 census of Vigo Co., IN. In any case, he married Elizabeth Long on 10 Nov 1842 in Clark Co., IL (Clark Co., IL, and Vigo Co.,IN, are adjoining). He is found in the 1850 census of Clear Creek Precinct, Clark County, IL, but in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses he had moved to Buena Vista, Richland Co., WI. Children, from the combined censuses, were: a. Emily Catherine McCain; b. ca. 1843 in Vigo Co., Indiana; m. James N. Weller b. William McCain; b. ca. 1845 in either Clark Co., Illinois, or Vigo Co., Indiana; d. 4 Mar 1901 in Taylor Co., Iowa;m. Delia A. Pearce c. John McCain; b. ca. 1848 in Clark Co.,Illinois; d. bef. 1860

I do not know when Green died, but he was obviously still alive in 1880. His widow, "Mrs. Green McCaim"[sic], later moved to Iowa (perhaps living with her son, William, in Taylor Co.)

In the next part, I will discuss what became of Hugh McCain (m. Mary Hamilton) after he left Henry County, VA.
