Obituary | Her Obituary. Helen Jane Vaughn was born April 20, 1921 to Robert Hershel and O’Dessa Graham Vaughn of Collinsville, Texas. She was the 3rd of 6 children and the eldest daughter. She grew up on a large family farm and attending a small country school. After high school, Helen graduated from nursing training at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas and worked in Dallas for a couple of years before moving to California where she worked for a facial plastic surgeon in Hollywood. Helen then took a job that moved her to China for a year and was evacuated when the Communists took over the country. She then worked for a 3 doctor clinic in Beverly Hills. After World War ll, Helen took a civil service job that took her to Japan (Nikko & Tokyo) from 1948 to 1950. While in Japan, Helen met her husband, Emil G. (Chris) Christiansen (Lt. Col. US Arm). They married in May of 1952 and started married life at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Helen became active in many of the activities involving officer’s wives. Army life took the family to Augsburg, Germany for 3 years, and then to Evansville, Indiana for 4 years, where Chris retired. Chris’Second career took the family to Orange, California in 1963, where Helen worked as an RN in a doctor’s offices for 15 years.In 2008, several years after her husband died, Helen decided to move to Silverdale, Washington to be near her daughter and son-in-law, where she continued to live independently. Helen remained sharp, engaged and interested in the broader world until shortly before she passed away on June 28, 2017. Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elise and Alan Maglaughlin, of Bremerton, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, her 3 brothers, William Robert Vaughn, George Joe Lee Vaughn, and Silas Max Vaughn and her 2 sisters, Mary Glenda Light Miller and Alma Nell Maples Ferguson. Helen will be buried beside her husband at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.A Memorial Service will take place at Crista Shores on July 28, 2017 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations to the Disabled Veterans of America, Silverdale Lutheran Church, or your favorite charity. |
