Anecdote | Lafayette Redman is my great grandfather on my grandmother Mary Louella (Ella) Redman's side of my family. Lafayette was married three times. His first wife was Eliza Jane Battles born 6 Nov 1838 in St. Clair, Alabama, USA. She died 1865 in Izard County, Arkansas. Her parents were Francis Nelson Battles 1816-1863 and Mary Ann Lawson 1819-1870. Lafayette and Eliza Jane Battles had three sons--Hosah b. 1860, John B. b. 1862, and Joel b. 1863. All three boys were born in Arkansas. Lafayette's second wife was Rhoda (Rody) Ann Clark born about 1837 in Tennessee, USA. She died during child birth 1870 in Franklin, Izard County, Arkansas. Lafayette and Rhoda Ann Clark had three sons and one daughter--James Daniel b. 1866 d. 1945; Darnadus b. 1867 (m. Nancy Ann Hightower b. 13 Jan 1871) he died 1941;Thomas b. 1869; and Rebecca Ann b. 1870 d. 1926. All children were born in Arkansas. Lafayette Redman's third wife was my great grandmother, Laura Ann Jones Montgomery Halbrook Redman b. July 10, 1830 in Georgia and died Nov. 25, 1907. Prior to marrying Lafayette, Laura Ann was married to William Franklin Montgomery and had five children with him--Octavia A. b. 1853; Leona Bernice b.1855; Martha b. 1857; all three girls were born in Georgia. Sons Thomas A b. 1858, and Calvin James b. 1860, were born in Arkansas. After being widowed, Laura Ann married James M. Halbrook (1822 -) on 29 Jan 1863, in Conway Co., Arkansas. They had one child William A. Halbrook born in 1864. James Halbrook disappeared during the Civil War and she then married Lafayette Lee Redman. Laura Ann had one child with Lafayette--my grandmother Mary Louella (Ella) Redman b. 11 Nov 1873. Lafayette died 1889 in Franklin, Izard, Arkansas. Laura Ann Redman is listed as a land owner in "Arkansas' Index to Izard County, Arkansas, From the Beginning: Original Land Ownership Maps."
