Obituary | 29 September 2009 | Her Obituary on 29 September 2009 in Hinesville, Georgia, United StatesBG. Hazel Marie "Nana" Woodard went to meet her Savior on Sunday, Sept. 27. She was greeted by those who had preceded her in death, her devoted husband, James L. Woodard, who passed away March 16, 2009. Also her mother and father, Blanchard S. and Katherine E. Odom; sisters Mildred E., Annie Louise and Margie L.; and brothers Eddie M. and Blanchard S. Jr. Odom. Born April 14, 1929, the fourth of seven children, she was a native of Jacksonville, Fla., where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and a Sunday School teacher. Upon moving to Georgia in 1995 to be closer to her family, she joined Gum Branch Baptist Church. She was better known as Nana. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Nana leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, James B. (Pat) Woodard Sr.; four adored grandchildren, Jamie (Melissa) Woodard, Marc (Bridgett) Woodard, Erica (Dennis) Abbgy and Jacob Woodard; precious great-grandchildren; Vivian, Noah, Kalee, Rachel, Brandon, Megan, Paige, Gregory and Bradley; her sister, Betty (Joe) Hogan of Jacksonville; as well as a host of wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews, extended relatives and many treasured friends. As a child, her dream was to run away with her two sisters and pursue singing and dancing. She loved knitting and making dolls but her true passion was her family, who brought her great happiness and many wonderful stories to share. Nana was a woman of extreme character and faith who loved her family and friends and lived a very fulfilling life. She was a vital part in the life of this family, she has been the glue that held them together. She was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will forever have a place in our hearts. Our hearts are broken, but we know that the memories we have with Nana will give us the strength to get us all through the rest of our lives here on earth, until we meet again in heaven. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gum Branch Baptist Church. The viewing will be at 10 a.m. at the church with funeral services following. The Rev. David Daus will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodard Family Cemetery in Gum Branch. Honorary pallbearers are Woody Adams, Howard Hill and the staff of Coastal Manor Nursing Home.8 |
