Biography

AnecdotePleasant Meador and his brother Ballard Samuel Meador left their home in Virginia and headed south. They left their father and stepmother on the family plantation near Gravel Hill in Buckingham County, Virginia, where they raised tobacco. They meant to join their cousins in Tennessee.Eventually they settled in Marshall County, in Northeast Mississippi, in the early 1850’s.1

Military30 April 1861He served in the military on 30 April 1861. BALLARD SAMUEL MEADOR, 1st enlistment: B.S. MEADOR, age 32, Pvt. COB, enlisted 4-30-1861 in Ripley, Mississippi by Capt. Buchanan. 2nd enlistment Pvt. COB, 1st. Reg. Ms Partisan rangers enlisted 8-1-1862 at Ripley, Mississippi for 3 years by Col. W. C. Faulkner. He was wounded in action near Iuka, Mississippi on Sept 19, 1863.He is listed on numerous company muster rolls.
This company later became the 7th Mississippi Calvary. BALLARD received a confederate pension until his death in 1904, and MARY a widows pension until her death in 1919. BALLARD SAMUEL MEADOR was a carpenter & brick layer. He died in 1904 in Hickory Flats, Mississippi, and is believed to be buried in Old Zion Hill cemetery in Union County, Mississippi, near the parents of his son in law, MARCUS YOUNG.1
