AnecdoteBenjamin Phelps Young died in jan of 1891.  He journeyed to Montgomery, Al. which was customary for local inhabitants to sell his cattle.  His overseer had preceeded him in delivering the cattle to the stock yard.  When Benjamin arrived in the city it was decided that they would take a final survey of the cattle before the next days sale.  Lanterns were carried with them as they followed the train tracks since no street lights existed in Montgomery at this time.  The laterns were small and provided little light which probably contributed to the train accident which killed Benjamin.  He died at age 56,(actually 55 yrs 4 months 24 days).  He is buried in the family cemetery located on Young's Island, Lake Martin, Tallapoosa County Al.  Sarah Edith Goodman, his second, wife is buried in the same cemetery.  His first wife Mary Frances Sherrill was buried in Cussetta, Ga.
