Anecdote | | Sara Phelps Haynes Young: Benjamin H. dies when she was just 30 years of age. Sarah found herself with a farm and a lot of growing children! She had to sell most of the land that Benjamin Harrison had spent many years buying because of his out-standing debt on those acres. She was determined to raise her family and in 1866 built Young's Ferry on the Tallapoosa River. It is still called Young's Ferry now, even though the ferry has long been gone. This comment is based on the story from The Hermitage of Tallapoosa County. |
