The cemetery is located on 5 Notch Road, South of the intersection with Jackson Road. Joseph Jackson: Joseph is buried in the Jackson Cemetery in Centralhatchee, Ga. The cemetery is located on 5 Notch Road, South of the intersection with Jackson Road. The cemetery was established around 1857 as near as I can determine ... I placed a cemetery marker at the Cemetery in December, 2007 to mark and name the cemetery. The family lived in the area surrounding the cemetery from around 1839 ... I have a copy of the original document where Joseph acquired the property in 1839 and a copy of of the document where the original owner acquired the property in the 1829 land lottery. The property was passed down through the family and is still owned by a distant cousin ... unless he has sold the property since 2008 when I last visited the Court House in Franklin. There was a house behind the cemetery where the family lived ... it was torn down a number of years and replaced by another house. There was a house across the road from the cemetery that was built in the mid 1800's as a log cabin where the family lived for a number of years. It had clapboard siding added in the 1900's ... not sure when so it did not appear to be a log cabin. It sat vacant for a number of years and was burned maybe in the 1970's. At one time, the historical society in Franklin indicated to my father that they felt it was probably the oldest structure in Heard County. I visited both houses in the 1950's and 60's ... I have photos of the log cabin from probably the 1970's. I was in the area last July (2012) when I drove my Nephew around to provide him with a history of the area and show him where things were physically located. |
