AnecdoteJohn Love was born about 1792 in Pennsylvania.  There is a record of a christening on June 2, 1793 in Fagg's Manor Presbyterian Church, Londonderry Township, Chester Co., PA of a John Love, son of Samuel Love (no mother listed), which is probably him.  John moved to Tennessee, where he acquired land in Greene County and worked as a farmer.

John Love married Nancy Louise Rinehart on October 29, 1818 in Greene County, Tennessee.  Nancy was born about 1794 in Virginia.  Her father is believed to have been Johannes “John” Reinhardt, born 1755 in North Carolina, and her paternal grandfather is believed to have been Jacob Reinhardt, a German immigrant who came to America with his wife Anna Margaretha.

John and Nancy lived in the Appalachian foothills of east Tennessee all their lives, near Limestone Springs, Greene County, Tennesse.  As did most men of the day, John worked his land as a farmer.

John Love and Nancy had the following known children:
Sarah “Sally” Love, born about 1820
Hamilton Love, born about 1824, married Mary
Samuel Ebzan Love, about 1827-1910, marred 1st Emma Bailey, 2nd Sarah E. Darnell
Luther M. Love,  1829-1867, married Bertha Lovette
Harriet N. Love, 1832-1921, married William Rufus Stallcup
Martha Ann Love, 1834-1814, married Ephram Hauser

In the 1830 federal census John is in Greene County in a household of 11 that includes 7 “free white persons” and 4 slaves.  In 1840 his household includes 9 “free white persons.”  In 1850 (the first year that individals in the household are named), the census shows the above 6 children all living at home, the three sons also working as farmers on the family land.
In the 1860 census John appears as age 68 with wife Nancy, age 66, their three daughters (Sally, Harriet, and Martha) and some young children with the surname Hamilton.  John’s occupation is still farmer, his real estate is valued at $2,500 and his personal property at $500.  Two years later he appears on an 1862 tax assessment list, which shows he owned 108 acres in Greene County.

John does not appear in the 1870 census, suggesting he died sometime between 1862 and 1870 (he would have been in his 70s).  Nancy was still living in 1870, age 76, living in Limestone Springs with her daughter Martha and Martha’s husband, Ephram Hauser.
AnecdoteJohn Love was born about 1792 in Pennsylvania, probably in Chester County.  His father was Samuel Love, about whom next to nothing is known, and his mother is unknown. There is a record of John's christening in 1793 in Fagg's Manor Presbyterian Church, Chester Co., PA.

The 1850 census for Greene County shows all 6 children still living at home, with the three sons all working as farmers on the family land.
John died sometime between 1860 and 1870 near his home area of Limestone Springs, Green County, Tennessee.  In the 1860 census he appears at age 68 with wife Nancy, age 66, their three daughters--Sally, Harriet, and Martha--and some young children with the surname Hamilton.  John still lists his occupation as farmer, his real estate is valued at $2,500 and his personal property at $500.  He does not appear in the 1870 census so it is assumed he died before then.
His widow Nancy was still living in 1870.  The census for that year lists her as 76 years old, still living in the Limestone Springs area.  In the same household is Martha, the youngest daughter, and Ephram Hauser, Martha's husband.  Nearby, perhaps on the same property but not in the same household, is her son Hamilton Love and his wife Mary.  Hamilton probably inherited a portion of the family land after his father died.

Daughter Martha Ann Love Hauser died in 1914 at age 80.  Her father is recorded on her death certificate as John Love, born in Pennsylvania, and her mother is listed as Louise Rinehart.  Perhaps Nancy's full name included the name Louise, or perhaps whoever gave the information did not recall her correct first name.
